Last SlideNext SlideContributor Paul Seibert takes to "DUMBO" in Brooklyn, N.Y., to capture his steel wool photography experiment.(Photo: Paul Seibert, Your Take)After seeing steel wool photography featuring eye-catching, fire-like images on his Instagram, contributor Paul Seibert decided to give the technique a try.Seibert searched for instructional YouTube videos to learn how to create these images and took to the streets of New York to test out his newfound knowledge.YOUR TAKE: Upload amazing shots and tell us how you took them!To prepare, Seibert spread out a piece of steel wool and stuffed it into a whisk, using the thinnest steel wool for more defined sparks. He then evenly adjusted the space of the wires on the whisk. Last he tied a piece of cord to the end of the whisk, which allows one to spin the device in the air.Seibert then set the stage for the photo at a waterfront area in Brooklyn, N.Y. He used a 9-volt battery to ignite the piece of equipment by rubbing the battery against the whisk.A friend hit the shutter release on Seibert's Canon 5D Mark iii with a Canon EF 16-35mm lens, as Seibert started to swing the whisk on a wire behind his head. He used a 2.8 F-stop, 50 ISO with an f8 aperture.Thirty seconds later, Seibert's photo was developed and the group started shouting and yelling over the images. The payoff was instant, Seibert says.Because his main goal was to represent the image in a way that was "clean, sharp and pleasing to the eye," he didn't use extraordinary filters or features in editing.YouTube users suggest wearing long sleeves, gloves, eye protection when attempting this photography process. Others advise keeping a fire extinguisher on hand. For more of Seibert's work, visit his website, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and contributor profile.Want to see more fantastic photos from folks just like you?
